End of a Tail: Laura Osnes & Santino Fontana’s Beloved Cinderella Pal Herman the Fish Dies

first_imgHerman the Fish, the waterlogged backstage buddy to Cinderella stars Santino Fontana and Laura Osnes, has gone to the big fishbowl in the sky. As confirmed in the final episode of Osnes’ Broadway.com video blog, The Princess Diary, Herman died earlier this month. Herman became a regular on The Princess Diary and was so loved by viewers that he inspired a Twitter feed and backstage friends in Sherman the Fish (who lived with co-star Greg Hildreth) and Merman the Fish (roomie to Ann Harada). Herman also sometimes magically spoke to Osnes, although it was later revealed on Broadway.com’s Ask a Star feature to actually be the voice of Fontana, making Herman his second most famous voiceover gig after Hans in Frozen. According to his family and friends, Herman is said to have died of heartbreak over his time at Cinderella coming to an end. As seen in episode two of The Princess Diary, Herman first joined the Cinderella family in March 2013, when he was purchased at Petland Discounts in Hell’s Kitchen by Osnes as an opening night gift for Fontana. A Crowntail Betta fish, Herman was chosen by Osnes for his beautiful blue color, which matched Fontana’s dressing room. WHINSEC CGSOC Current Operations Discussion Panels Feature Diverse Expertise

first_imgBy Lee Rials, WHINSEC Public Affairs May 09, 2017 The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation’s (WHINSEC) Command & General Staff Officers Course (CGSOC) filled its annual Current Operations Discussion Panels with experts on topics relating to responses to humanitarian crises and disasters from April 4th-6th. Experts from among active and retired senior leaders, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of State, Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, the non-governmental organization Team Rubicon, the Department of the Army G-3/5/7, U.S. Northern Command, U.S. Army North, U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Army South, the Inter-American Air Forces Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard discussed Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) and disaster response in general. The 66 CGSOC students from the U.S., Canada, and 11 other nations, and their instructors were the primary audience as such events as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Haiti earthquake, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and river floods were addressed in terms of government and non-governmental agencies working together. Natural disaster and humanitarian assistance crises are considered by most Caribbean and Central and South American governments and their people as daily threats to life, rule of law, and stability. In the United States, storms, fires, and floods are frequent occurrences requiring response from all levels of our governments. The CGSOC sponsors these discussions each year, and the topic this year was particularly apropos because one of the key presenters did not come because he stayed in Louisiana to organize response to violent storms that occurred just before the panels. These presentations and discussions increase the ability of WHINSEC CGSOC students to plan, respond, and conduct DSCA and Humanitarian Assistance / Disaster Response operations.last_img read more

Keane availability shocks O’Neill

first_img The new Ireland manager appointed the 42-year-old as his assistant last week with Keane having been out of the game since losing his job at Ipswich in January 2011. O’Neill was delighted to have landed a number two he believes will bring genuine quality to the international stage he once graced as a player, but revealed his astonishment at his availability. Martin O’Neill has admitted he is surprised no club has taken the chance to hand Roy Keane a return to management. “He was very focussed, he was looking forward to it and he was talking a great deal about it last night, and true to his word, he was there.” O’Neill revealed he spoke briefly to the players on Monday evening and then again on Tuesday morning before training, and he and Keane will spend the next two days getting to know the squad ahead of Friday’s friendly against Latvia. The manager already knows the likes of John O’Shea and Keiren Westwood from his time at Sunderland, and there was another familiar face in midfielder Aiden McGeady. O’Neill said: “They are very enthusiastic and ready for it, I think. There’s a bit of disappointment with the way in which the (World Cup) qualifiers ended. “Just speaking to them last night, I think they felt that probably the killer-blow was really the late equaliser by Austria and that certainly knocked confidence a bit, and from then onwards, it was really uphill. But overall, they are looking forward to it. “McGeady hasn’t changed a bit since I knew him at Celtic. He’s exactly the same, just as crabbit as they come. Not one bit, honestly.” When asked the inevitable question about Stephen Ireland’s chances of being recalled to the squad after his self-imposed six-year exile, O’Neill insisted he had an open mind. Ireland has indicated he would like to speak to the new management team, although the 61-year-old Ulsterman is not sure how he will approach the issue. He said: “Some players are actually taller than me and some are stronger than me, and when I have a decision to leave them out, I might have to phone them rather than speak to them face-to-face. That will tell you how brave I am at the end of it all. “When you have to face John Hartson in the wrath of a semi-final having been taken off the field – and we had won the game. “I thought John would have been celebrating, but he was waiting for me in the tunnel, so having faced John, I think I can face most people. “And to be perfectly honest, Stephen Ireland is much smaller than John Hartson.” Andy Reid has returned to the international fold in the wake of Giovanni Trapattoni’s departure having fallen foul of the Italian following a sing-song in the team hotel in the wake of a World Cup qualifier victory over Georgia. Asked if he could cope with Reid and his guitar, O’Neill replied: “If he plays it well, I haven’t a problem with it. “At some stage, Andy will have to go to bed, won’t he? If he is still continuing to play at 5.30am, even I, even if we won, might get fed up with that.” He said: “I am. I know that he feels things didn’t go very well at Ipswich for him. “I think sometimes it’s forgotten as well that in his first season, he actually got Sunderland promoted and did very well. Some of those things get lost in time and people want to forget that. “But I think I was surprised that he hadn’t had another opportunity, that somebody wouldn’t have taken a chance with him. “But who knows what might happen here? He’s here, he is focussed on it. He wants to do it and I think you will find tomorrow that he is especially ready for it.” Keane will meet the media on Wednesday afternoon for the first time since his appointment and given that much of the talk since his return to the Irish set-up was first mooted has centred around his Saipan bust-up with then manager Mick McCarthy ahead of the 2002 World Cup finals, there is sure to be a packed house. The former Manchester United midfielder was at the training ground by 9.30am on Tuesday morning, 90 minutes before the players were due to begin work under the new regime for the first time, and the initial feedback after a session in which he played a leading role was positive. O’Neill said: “Roy? Well, I sent him there early,” before adding: “I did not, he wanted to go. “He was with the goalkeeping coach and Seamus (McDonagh) is always early. Seamus would have started at 5.30am this morning if he could, so Roy wanted to go with him just to get a few things organised. Press Associationlast_img read more

Points shared in scrappy draw

September 20, 2020

first_img Odion Ighalo and Etienne Capoue each had an excellent chance to snatch all three points for the Hornets but both failed to convert from close range as the teams were forced to settle for a point. Southampton duo Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama, linked with moves away to Manchester United and Tottenham respectively, both started the fixture but Mane left the field through injury just 25 minutes into the first half. Watford and Southampton are still searching for their first Barclays Premier League wins of the season after playing out a scrappy goalless draw at Vicarage Road. Press Associationcenter_img It means Watford have now drawn all three of their opening matches of the campaign while Southampton find themselves in the relegation zone after two draws and a defeat. Ronald Koeman succeeded Quique Sanchez Flores in charge at Valencia in 2007 but it is the Watford boss now looking to emulate Koeman, with the Dutchman showing the way in progressing a recently promoted Premier League side, while also bringing European football to the south coast. How Saints cope with the extra demands of the Europa League is likely to be a crucial factor in whether they can repeat last season’s success and this offered an early indication of the difficulties ahead, coming three days after Thursday night’s first leg draw at home to FC Midtjylland. The visitors began brightly with Mane, playing just off the striker, making his scintillating pace count in the 16th minute when he raced in behind the Watford backline but Allan Nyom did well to prevent his cross reaching Graziano Pelle. If Louis van Gaal had been watching over his latest transfer target, he had little else to ponder as the forward was forced off through injury nine minutes later after two collisions with Heurelho Gomes and then Troy Deeney. The contest was largely a scrappy affair, ridden with heavy touches and speculative balls forward, but the one clear-cut chance in the first half fell to Watford’s Ighalo five minutes before the break. Deeney fed Ikechi Anya down the right and the Scot fired a low cross to the back post where Ighalo seemed certain to finish from three yards out but the Nigerian failed to connect and Southampton were spared. Alessandro Diamanti came on at half-time to make his Watford debut but it was Saints who started faster as Pelle’s shot was palmed away from the top corner by Gomes before Shane Long headed the resulting corner over. The Hornets enjoyed a stronger spell as the game moved past the hour-mark and Capoue should have scored when Deeney flicked to him at the back post but the Frenchman could only head over with the goal gaping. The hosts looked the more likely to steal a late winner and substitute Ben Watson should have done better with a shot from the edge of the area three minutes from time, but in truth neither side did enough to deserve victory and the spoils were shared. last_img read more
